How the self-check works

Three questions in each area: the basics, hand reading, draws and outs, pot odds, play before the flop, and reading players. You see the answers and the reasons at the end, not after each one, so the check measures what you knew coming in.

You start at the stage of the first area where you get fewer than two of three right, and the path opens up to it. Everyone still starts as a fish: the ranks below your stage are yours to claim by passing their exams.

Questions

Can I take it again?

Yes, as often as you like. Taken again it works as a check-up: your skill card shows what changed since last time. A retake never closes a stage it opened.

What if I’m brand new?

Skip it and start at Stage 1, The basics. If you take it anyway, it stops after the first three questions when the basics are new to you.

Is “Not sure” a bad answer?

No. It counts the same as a wrong answer, and it places you better than a guess would.

Do I get the ranks for my stage?

Not straight away. The check opens the stages; you claim the ranks below yours by passing their exams, which go quickly when you know the game.
